  • english version of bricscad express tools  v12?

tanget tools working link for bricscad?

  • i have translated the bricscad express tools help in english from german. this is for all the bricscad users.

keep our software at high position.

    acet.chm

  • I was able to down load the ".zip" file from "http://ww3.cad.de/foren/ubb/uploads/CADwiesel/BricscadV12.zip", install the software and switch from Deutsch to English but I get an "Navigation to the webpage was canceled" error when accessing the help file.

I get the same error with both the german and english versions of the ".chm" file.

Is there some trick to get the help file to work?
  • Try right clicking on the file in windows explorer; select properties and then click on the check box that says "unblock".  Hopefully that will sort the problem (it's a security thing!)
  • I'm using Windows XP64 and the Properties screen does not have an "unblock" box.

    Any other ideas?
  • Sorry, I meant "uNblock" button, not check box. Still if that doesn't work mr google has this:  http://www.drexplain.com/press/articles/error_accessing_and_displaying_chm_files_reasons_and_solutions/

  • In regedit I added the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\HTMLHelp\1.x\ItssRestriction\MaxAllowedZone and set the value to 1.

I still have no "uNblock" button but I can open the .chm file with explorer and see the contents and all the help screens. The "About" & "FAQ" are unreadable (lots of funny characters.)

In Bricscad I can see the contents lists but all the help screens have the message "This program cannot display the webpage."

Is there something more in Bricscad I should be doing?
  • I think the translated acet.chm in post #3 was created using some sort of "auto-translate" utility similar to Google Translate. The quality of such translations, especially in case of technical texts, can be dubious. As you have dicovered some pages contain "funny characters" and I have a strong hunch that the internal links have not been correctly translated, explaining the error messages that you receive.
It is perhaps a good idea to wait for the official translation. If you have access to the help file for the AC Express Tools you could consult that.
  • I copied the help file from AutoCAD 2008's express tools into the directory and have the same results.  I can view the help file from windows explorer but not Bricscad.
  • @ Clifford:
The links in the AutoCAD file obviously don't match those used by the BC tools. And why should they? Just consult the help "manually".
  • @ Roy:
If you go back to the beginning of this topic, kotesh m, was asking people to test his translated version of the help file and promote the software.  I was just trying out the software as requested and trying to fully report the results.

I do think once you get past the WinXP limitation, that Bricscad has a problem working with the help file.  If the OS can work with the file, why can't the application?  There is only one "link" in Express Tools to call the help file (which works), the Table of Contents works, yet rendering the individual pages fails.

I don't expect to use these tools much, if at all, as I have had access to the AutoCAD version since they were introduced and never used them.  Others in my office do use them and if Bricscad as going to be a replacement for AutoCAD, these need to work (including the help.)
  • @ Clifford:
I am afraid the original poster has confused you with his statement: "Keep our software at high position."
Kotesh m most likely has no relation with the German volunteer(s) developing the Bricscad Express Tools. He has just taken the German help file and "auto-translated" it without much attention to the quality of the result.
The fact that you can't get the original CHM to work with the German Express Tools may be of interest to the German Developer. I will alert him to this thread.
  • If you place the ".chm" file in the same directory as the other Bricscad help files, they work fine.  All 3 help files render their pages properly.  So I still believe that this is Bricscad's problem.
  • Hi there

I attached the original german translation of the Express Tools help file.
But if you like to use the English one, take the Original from the Autodesp Expresstools.
The German one was created by the ExpressTools2GermanProject, which i belongs to. In this file we changed some wrong statements and Commands.
BUT consider the german help file of the express tools we made for the Autocad Express tools. I haven't got the time to create an official Bricscad Expresstools help file yet.
Olso there are some Commands and Functions described, which arn't availleble in Bricscad and the Bricscad ExpressTools.
The Expresstools for Bricscad are completly new build and this is the reason, why they are prorectet at this time.
in Bricscad V12 changed some things and i've had to spend a lot of time to adapt the Expresstools from V11 to V12

  • @ Clifford:
The problems you have could be due to a search path issue.

According to the German $Readme.txt you have to follow four steps to install the Express Tools:

    1.
Entpacken sie die Zip Datei. Das entpackte Verzeichniss EXPRESS mit allen enthaltenen Dateien plazieren sie im Verzeichniss Bricscad V12.
Unpack the zip file and put the Express folder in the Bricscad V12 program folder.

    2.
Put the file on_doc_load.lsp in the Bricscad V12\Support folder. If you already have an on_doc_load.lsp file you should add the content of the file from the zip to your existing file.

    3.
Tragen sie das Unterverzeichniss Express in die Liste der Support Dateien Suchpfade ein.
Add the Express folder to the Bricscad search path.

    4.
    Starten sie ihr Bricscad wieder.
    Restart Bricscad.

Perhaps you have not changed the search path. Some info on how to do this: http://www.b-k-g.nl/search-path.html
  • My search path is not the problem.  I added the Express tools directory to the search path from the start, without that Bricscad could not load "Acetutil.des" or find the help file.

Moving the help file fixed the page rendering problem.  I suspect that Bricscad does not give the help viewer the correct default directory (location of the file),  but I'm not a programmer.
  • This is not about the language difficulties - but has anyone had difficulty with using the "Delete Duplicate Objects" function in express tools (AKA Overkill)??

I was excited to find a Brics version of this but then had the following errors when I tried to run it:

    : overkill
    Select entities:
    Opposite Corner:
    Select entities:

    ; ----- LISP Error : Call Stack -----
    ; [0]...C:OVERKILL
    ; [1].....ACET-OVERKILL2
    ; [2].......ACET-SS-REMOVE-DUPS
    ; [3].........ACET-GEOM-OBJECT-POINT-LIST <<-- <br> ;
    ; ----- Error around expression -----
    (ACET-ENT-CURVEPOINTS NA (ACET-GEOM-CALC-ARC-ERROR -1.0))
;* no function definition at [EVAL]

Does anyone else experience the same?

(Let me know if I should have started a seperate thread for this.)

  • Hi Bill,
to fix this Problem it would be great, if i could get this drawing, you tried. Please send it to my email cadwiesel at cadwiesel dot de

    Thanks Martin
  • Thanks, email is on its way.

  • Hi there
i fixed the problem. Also i attached the whole Expresstoolsfiles here

    Bricscad V12_ExpressTools.zip

  •  Can some please tell me where I can find the  on_doc_load.lsp file. It was not in the Zip file posted in this forum.
  • if its not in the Sopport folder of bricscad, yo'll create it.
Make a copy of the file'on_doc_load_default.lsp' in the same folder, rename it to 'on_doc_load.lsp' and open it by Notepad. delete the whole text inside and type in this row:
    ;; Silent load.
    (load "Acetutil.des")

    save the file - ready
  •  Thanks for that. The express tools work. However the text in the command line are in German?. Is there an English version?
  • 'error : syntax-error <"._erase"> at [READ]' error message when I load  Acetutil.des

PS: My OS is traditional Chinese Win7
  • Shun-Hsiang Hsiao
We had a similar problem with using GeoTools (also a .DES Lisp application) in China.

We solved the problem using the solution shown in my blog post.

    http://rakeshrao.typepad.com/work_smarter_geotools/2011/11/using-geotools-with-non-western-locales-and-character-sets.html

Perhaps, it is the same LOCALE issue. Try this solution and it might solve your problem too.

  •  The toolbars have displayed but not the menu. How do I get the menu to display so that I can change the language.
  • I'v never had this before. Did you set the new suppurtpaths? unload the menu, and try it again.
Otherway type into the command line MENU_ENG or MENU_GER to switch the Language
  • This is off topic but has to do with part of the express tools.

When you create a messagebox using "acet-ui-message"  ie. (acet-ui-message "abc"  "def" 4100) should it not be modal to Bcad?

I have tried other mesagebox routines and have had the same problem.

Doslib ("dos_msgbox" ) does create a modal messagebox but I cannot run it in Bricscad Classic.

Just wondering if this is a Bricscad problem or if anyone had some insight into this.

  • The function acet-ui-messageis a part of the expresstools. I tried it out and its working perfect.
But im running on win xp. whats your os? Maybe there was a changing in the windows shell.
