2D constraint symbols

 Is there a reason that 2D constraint symbols do not show up correctly on-screen when applied to geometry? Is it somehow text or font related? They show up as grayed-out squares, not as symbols.
Using Ubuntu 10.04, Bricscad v12

     I see a nice write-up on the Bricscad Blog about constraints. The constraint symbols all nicely display in the screen shots shown there.
    However, in my Bricscad (V12 on Ubuntu) they display only as gray squares.

    Anybody know why?
