Ribbon´s for Bricscad

Are there any plans to change User Interface in Bricscad to Ribbons (like an other Program has?).

How do other users think about a more modern interface and Ribbons for Bricscad? I think Ribbons can be very powerful also for new users who start or who will change from an other program with "A". Ribbons in my opinion give software a newer and more modern look and feel and i like to work with and would like to have in Bricscad in future too.

  •  In my opinion, ribbons were the worst change to date that had been made to AutoCAD and the MS Office suite.  They were supposed to increase productivity, but I found myself spending more time looking for a tool - to me the program flow feels disjointed when using the ribbons, I do not immediately see the tool I want presented on a button, rather, I have to flip through tabs of tools to find what I am looking for before I can use said tool.  One of the main reasons that I went with Bricscad as opposed to Autocad was due to the old fashion tools bars - seeing ribbons would really turn me off of the program.  That being said, that's my opinion, and not everybody likes toolbars, so if ribbons were to come to BC they should be off by default - give the user the option to turn them on and replace the standard toolbars.

Boil it down, my feeling, standard buttons have been around since the dawn of GUI's for software and we have grown accustom to them, why fix what isn't broken?

And yes i also think, if there is a option for ribbons so there also use to be one to work in classic (with toolbars) modus. I think for people using acad or bricscad since longer time and for those who grew up with toolbars of course it is a bad decision to change. But on the other hand ribbons can be interesting for younger users who for example learn about CAD in university now, because new programs will be most with ribbons (AutoCAD, Inventor). And for myself, i started with AutoCAD 2009 (with new ribbon toolbars) and for me it was easy to use and comfortable. When we changed to Bricscad i used to get used new to the workflow with toolbars and commandline.

So BCAD team, if ribbons;) so please also with option to change to classic interface;)

  • Ribbons would likely be costly to implement, are profoundly disliked by a good part (if not the majority) of the user base, and would be a complete misfit on Mac and Linux desktops... so not a wise move for bricsys.
A rather small UI enhancement that I think would be universally welcomed (since useful for newbies and savvy users alike, and getting in nobody's ways) is command completion - Rhino has it, Acad meanwhile too, and it seems generally to be on the rise.
