Ole Object - Pasting Excel BOM into Paperspace

If I paste an Excel Spreadsheet which is acting as my BOM or source of Data into paperspace and then copy the drawing, creating a new paperspace DWG, I then often cannot properly edit the OLE Object in the new drawing. 

Oftentimes, the data never saves, even after clicking save. Is this a bug, or is there a proper process to guarantee that the Excel data can be changed in that next drawing, and saved properly?
