Layer States

Are these recognised across other CAD platforms?

I have some As Constructed dwgs to send off to a local Council.
Sewer, Stormwater, water connections/ detail etc.

It would make it easier at their end if it does.
I'm not sure what they use and No - I can't ask them as they don't have those sort of communication lines.
(Please don't ask more on that, but it's the obvious question to ask them ie.)!!!!!!
I had thought of just send in BLOCKS for each level of detail, but thats a lot more work for me.

Richard

  • DWG is so common in the CAD world that the file format is often not even mentioned for 'cad files'.

It's also common for other programs to be able to convert from dwg.

But for most other than actual drafties, PDF is the pseudo standard for transfer.

  • John this is about how to present it to them in dwg format.
I know thats what they want.
Currently I have different layer states to display different 'themes'.

Each layer set has its own set of 'attributes' (not block attributes) as in offset from service point (Stop valve, water meter, manhole - sewer & stormwater) to nearest side boundary, invert or surface level and so on.

If I was to print to PDF and all control was at my end I could handle that easily. They'd refuse it in PDF format.

I hoped that a Layer State in Bricscad could be recognised by AutoCAD, IntelliCad etc.
    Hence my query.

I could just send it all and let them sift through the information and may just have to do that.

If they'd accept GIS data this wouldn't be an issue.

  • I get it.

I do similar, and using Vplayer in various Layouts displays alternate layers needed to display from the same basic plan - then they are all thawed in Mspace which looks garbled in that view.

Where Mspace must be used, I xref to different files and present each with the right layers frozen/thawed in those.

You could save the same file multiple times with various layers showing, but giving people your script or layer state files probably won't work - they won't take the trouble. But it shouldn't be too hard for them to decipher or build their own layerstates from your files, if they really need to.
