How can i import an HPGL plt file.

i use this program with very good results !!

It's free and has a batch mode for converting multiple files from HPGL  PLT to DXF.

You could also use inkscape to open the file and save it to dxf - for hpgl files this works directly, for hpgl2 files you need to convert them to eps first, using hpgs (http://sourceforge.net/projects/hpgs.berlios/).
A bit more complicated, but works on linux as well, and the results have been fine for me (see screenshots).
Since accuracy is lost anyways, I would however rather convert to a raster format and underlay this just for reference...
