What's changed from version 12?

Could someone please point me to a "What's New" page for V13 as compared to V12?
(There is a page comparing the Linux version (at V12 yet) to the Windows version, but that's not what I need)

There are the release notes, but they specify detailed changes and bug fixes relative to the previous beta version.
Do the v13.1.5 release notes specify changes relative to v12.2.18?

In any case, while the release notes are helpful and informative to me,
I need a concise, bullet-pointed, prettily formatted page to help justify an upgrade to my boss.

  • Yaacov,

    Try:
    • Key Features. Highlights the key features added to V13. Be aware the MCAD type features are only available in Platinum
    • Comparison. Features new to V13 are highlighted with a *. Be aware that some features introduced in V12 have been improved with V13. Toolpalettes is one example, PUBLISH is probably another.
    • Download the Brochure.
    • Take your boss out for lunch.
    • Show him the price to switch to AutoCAD first, then show him the price to upgrade to V13.
    • Go for subscription. Saves on the annual justification process.
Just joking about taking your Boss out for lunch. With what your saving him, he should be taking you out for lunch!!

  • Yaacov,

In addition to Jason's links, here is another that may interest your boss:

  • Another nice post from Ralph Grabowski that tells you more about "What's New in V13"

  • Thanks guys! I'll dig into the links this afternoon. They look good.

Don't get me wrong, my boss loathes Autode$k at least as much as I do,
(if not more, after all he has to sign the checks)
and he wants to move all of us to Bcad, eventually,
but only when I can really certify that it's ready for our less power-user type people.
I've been on Bcad since V10, and I love it, adapted all my lisps,
but most of our architects are resistant to change.
I'm sure this is all too familiar.

What happened to me, is that we only just upgraded my seat to V12 last month.
(There was a serious bug with viewports and Acad R14 which was solved recently.
Yes, we're on R14. Yes, you can laugh)
I don't want to wait so long to upgrade to V13, so I've got to justify it.

I think the subscription model might really help. I'll look into it. If it's not too expensive :(

  • Yaacov,

I wouldn't laugh if you still use AutoCAD R14, 2002, or 2004. Many still do.

They have been one of the most stable releases with no-nonsense stuff in them, opened huge DWG files without a crawl and don't crib for hardware resources. The pain starts with later releases...

BricsCAD V13 should be very good for you.

  •  Here is the link to the V13 Release Notes page, listing all new items and bug fixes.
  • Thanks!
Yeah, the stability and speed on modern hardware is much of my problem.
I remember that R14 ran well on W95 with 64 mb of RAM or less!
(Or at least that's how I remembered, have I gotten spoiled?)

My users complained that Bcad ran slow and buggy when I tried them out with V11.
(I told them they were just used to R14's bugs and idiosyncrasies. They didn't buy it :(  ...)

Our boxes all run WXP SP3 with 2gb RAM at least,
none more than 3 or 4 years old. (I think). We can't afford the latest and fastest.
(Though I have told my boss that we'll have to finally upgrade to W7 or W8 this year.
(I see the signs, like when we had to abandon W98
(Yes, I dabble in autolisp (why do you ask? :))
      )
    )

V13 release notes talk about multithreading in the display rendering.
Is that what you mean? I hope this will be the version I can finally roll out.
I'll try it out on my box at home.
