Tables, deleting the top row

Am I overlooking something obvious, is there some trick to deleting the top row in a table, or is this a "by design because A* does it that way" issue?

When I read a CSV file to create a new table, the first row automatically contains the file name of the imported file. That's useful but I'd like to delete that row and be left with just the data rows that follow. However, that first row won't delete. I can add rows above it, below it, or un-merge it, but whichever row is the current top row in the table seems to be protected from deletion.

The same behavior occurs with a blank table (created from the "Insert Table" dialog) but I guess I never noticed it until dealing with imported CSV files.
