Seeking utility to search through DWG files

A quick search of the application catalog did not turn up anything to do this.

Can anyone recommend a low-cost utility to search through a collection of drawings to find specific text?

Thank you,
-Joe

  • I have spent a lot of time looking for that holy grail. It would be worth a lot to me.

As close as I could find were options which only work on certain versions, with a fair bit of fiddling.

  •  I have a program thatI I used to market for autocad users.  I have not tried it yet with bricscad.  How strongwould your need be for this.  My program is called batchwizard.  This program allows you to batch process a folder or subfolder of dwg or dxf files.  You have the option of running a autolisp program in each file or printing.  I can take the time to write a program and test this out for you think you might be interested in buying something like this after a 30-day free trial.  Just let me know. • I might average 1/2 hour per week, searching for a job or file containing particular text or mtext.

Usually it's an equipment model number, so I can reuse the previous detail drawn around that equipment.

If I have to reinvent that wheel, it takes longer of course.

The files are in about 30 directories with up to 100 subdirectires in some, in multiple dwg versions - I believe that's the most difficult part.

Windows Search would be fine if it only worked for .dwg files.

  •  I have used a program that works with Window index files called DWG IFilter.  There is a free non-commercial version at the bottom of  http://www.ifiltershop.com/dwg-ifilter.html
  • The ifilter program is $19 for the desktop edition.  It directly searches into DWG files  up to version 13.  A CAD program is not required.
