Template error

I am not sure how this happened, but a few weeks ago I started getting an error when I open the program from the desktop for a new drawing session (i.e., just clicking the icon, not clicking an existing drawing icon).  The error says: Unable to load drawing (then path to templates) The path that was used points to a directory, not a file.  The path listed to the templates is correct.  And in the template settings it points to the correct .dwt file.  After I click "OK" it will make a blank drawing (without our layers, setting, etc.) I am using 14.2.13.. As far as I can tell this did not happen when I started using v14, but it did start after one of the updates (don't know which one).

  • Hi John,

I would try creating a new user profile. If the issue goes away, then it points to an issue within your current profile.

  • We know about such an issue and resetting the profile will work but it can be avoided. There is a variable TemplatePath for the templatefolder location, and there is a variable BASEFILE for the name of the default template. BASEFILE should be a filename(with or without path). BASEFILE should not be a foldername but there have been cases where BASEFILE became a foldername and then it cannot be used.
The SETTINGS dialog will not show the difference between BASEFILE being empty or a foldername. The fix is to edit BASEFILE.
  • Jason, you were right.  I created a new user profile and the issue disappeared.  Alexander, thanks for the explanation as to why this happened.  I don't really use profiles, so it is not a big deal.  But in the future I'll know a quicker way to remedy this issue if it occurs.  Thanks All.
