Osnap Magnet
in Other
When Osnap (autosnap) and the magnet feature is turned on it doesn't seem to work.
That is when you hover over the selected point and the symbol displays however close you put the cursor no magnet effect pulls it to the exact point.
Any ideas on how to ajust ?

What's your OSMODE (object snap mode) setting?
APERTURE setting?0 -
OSMODE default setting 167APERTURE default setting 10Tried increasing these values but has no effect on magnet because there is no magnet.0
-
The magnet effect does not occur as you hover. It occurs when you click the LMB to select the point with the snap symbol.0

I cannot get any magnet at all, example starting line command from a snap symbol.Im in trial mode for bricscad and like it so far.Dont like the fact that the magnet doesn't seem to be there.Am, I missing something ?0

By default DRAGSNAP is Off.
If I understand your description correctly, you will get this 'magnet' behavior when turning DRAGSNAP On.0 -
Turned DRAGSNAP on but the cursor doesn't snap to the point required.0
-
With DRAGSNAP (a new variable for me) switched to ON the magnetic effect occurs but it is applied to the entity being drawn not to the crosshairs.
It therefore doesn't work for the first point of a line.0 -
So is there any way to get the magnetic effect on the cross hairs while hovering (for example) over the symbol at the first point of a line \\/0

I don't think DRAGSNAP is the answer. As far as I see it only comes into play when you are using a modifying command, and it works differently to AUTOSNAP Magnet. Also DRAGSNAP was only introduced with V13.
The way Magnet works is quite subtle, particularly if you are using small SnapMarkerSize. I've compared function in BricsCAD V12, V13, & V14 to AutoCAD 2014, and from what I can see the magnet doesn't work in BricsCAD.
To help visualise how the magnet works I did the following:- Increased the snap marker size by adjusting SnapMarkerSize.
- Increased the aperture box size by adjusting APERTURE
- Turned the aperture box on using APBOX
- Set OSMODE with some running object snaps (Mid, End, Cen)
- The snap marker appear as soon as aperture box comes in contact with a line.
- Moving the cursor over the snap marker should cause it to automatically move to that snap point.

Thanks JasonPity it doesn't work for Bricscad. Comes in handy especially when dimensioning. You know exactly from what point you are coming and going to.One tick for Autocad on this one.0

IMO the snapmarkers as they are in BricsCAD are enough for that. Thanks JasonPity it doesn't work for Bricscad. Comes in handy especially when dimensioning. You know exactly from what point you are coming and going to.One tick for Autocad on this one.0 -
I agree with RKG’s opinion.
Curious though, coming from an AutoCAD background, I never noticed the lack of magnetic cursor in BCAD.
The magnetic object marker is quite sufficient.
Curious also (per Jason’s observations), it appears that the AUTOSNAP MAGNET setting is irrelevant.0 -
Interesting, I have never heard about the autosnap magnet, a slightly different topic, but I have noticed a little quark with my entity snaps. If I explicitly state that I would like to snap to a midpoint, while hovering around the application may come up with a couple of snaps, but, from time to time it will pick up a snap that is outside of the current viewing area causing your new entity to be attached to a snap that is way off in space. Is there a way to adjust the radius from the cursor that snaps are picked up within?0

So magnet option ticked or unticked makes no difference ?Isn't this a bug in the program ?Shouldn't it be addressed by Bricscad ?0
-
Scott, I have had similar to what you describe with entities slightly off Z=0.
Everything I do has Z=0, but sometimes entities grow an elevation and snaps can stop working on them completely until they are flattened.

@ Scott: the variable your are looking for is APERTURE.0

@ Mal PantonSo magnet option ticked or unticked makes no difference ?Yes, this is my understanding.Isn't this a bug in the program ?No, it is simply a feature that has not been implemented.Shouldn't it be addressed by Bricscad ?For Bricsys to decide, but probably not. This issue does IMO affect neither productivity nor compatibility, and is therefore not pressing at all.Keep in mind that BricsCAD does not aim to clone AutoCAD's interface, so small differences in the look&feel have to be taken for granted.0

Since the BricsCAD manual describes the magnet feature, it should work. So, I would classify it as a bug. If it were simply not implemented, then the documentation is in error.-Joe0

The magnet feature works (with respect to the snap marker).
The only "bug" I see is the lack of ability to turn it OFF.
Although I cannot think of a scenario where that would be desirable.0 -
@RobtAs far as I understand, this bit of the AUTOSNAP variable should make the cursor jump to the snap position, which probably makes most sense when you turn the display of the snap markers off. Still, I agree with your and Roy's remarks - I cannot see any real advantage over using the snap markers. However, Joe is also correct - every functionality described in the manual should work, so the description of the ddstrack command (and preferably also the help text in the settings window) should mention that this is not implemented. There are a couple of small glitches like that in the documentation (e.g. AutoSnap tooltips are not working on linux), but I never found this very annoying.0

Check your variables EnableAttraction and check AttractionDistance to make sure it matches your APERTURE size. You find these through OPTIONS > search MAGNET > down arrow0

EnableAttraction and AttractionDistance are functional, but (as far as I understand) apply to grip editing only.0
