OS Map Tiles: not displaying correctly - please help!

Hi,

First posting so please go gentle!

I have some OS map tiles (vector Mastermap) which I require to import into Bricscad to produce some drawings, but I have two problems. When I click on the .dwg containing each tile they open and display seemingly correctly.

However, if I open a standard .dwg I use as a template (it has the layout view already setup) two things happen which aren't correct. Firstly, the mapping is huge it's 100 or a 1000 times larger than it should be - why is this?

Secondly, the tile and the layers display correctly except the road names. If I open a tile say for north London in my template .dwg the road names which are shown on the tile are from a completely different tile (in central London)!! Its has the wrong data loaded over the mapping - the tiel I'm opening is pulling data from somewhere else. Its most bizarre and I am bamboozlled as to what, how and why this is occuring. If I open the tile directly all is ok.

Any ideas?

  • Ok I think I've discovered something.

When I go to insert the block (the OS tile .dwg) the unit is in metres and the factor is 1000.00.

    How do I alter this?
  • Right so I've found INSUNITS and changed this from 4 to 0 and this now seems to scale the mapping correctly.

So now I'm stuck on why some of the layers are referencing text data from another tile.
  • So I've now used the PURGE and REGEN commands and it seems to have fixed it.

    No idea how though!
  • INSUNITS certainly impacts when Inserting/Attaching drawing information. You didn't say how you set this, but if you go through _SETTINGS you will get further details on what the numbers mean. I would of thought in this case you would want to set INSUNITS = 6 (Metres).

You may also like to consider INSUNITSDEFSOURCE  INSUNITSDEFTARGET.

Older AutoCAD .DWG and .DWG generated from other applications may have no setting saved within the drawing for INSUNITS.

In regard to your other query on Layers, it's a little hard to comment without seeing a sample .DWG. Sounds like your OS Map is made up of a mixture of Vector & Image data. Potentially you may of inserted the data multiple times on different layers, which would give this type of result. i.e you inserted one of the tiles on the text layer of another. Deleting, then _PURGE will clean up empty layers and other unreferenced objects. _REGEN forces a re-calculation of all visual objects in your drawing, then updates the display. It wouldn't have any effect on layers.

Not sure how you are bringing this data in, but you might like to look at _XREF
