PAN
Hi Everybody, I have just started my Bricscad trial. I have previously trialed AutoCAD 2015, am currently still trialing CorelCAD 2015 and have some more in the pipeline.
So, to get started, I have a question about PAN. I liked the idea of grabbing a little hand from the icon ribbon and moving the model space around. I cannot see how to do that easily in BricsCAD. It seems one way is to type in PAN then create a sort of line with a direction to move the entity on the screen in that direction.
Can you help me here please?

On the Zoom toolbars there is a waving hand to Pan real time, or you can type RTP.
There is also a hand to Pan not in real time, or you can shorten it to P.
But you can hold down CTRL/SHFT/Rght mouse button and the hand appears while you hold them down.
I generally just zoom out and in somewhere else with the mouse wheel.0 -
why you do not simply press the mouse wheel (keep pressed)?0

Thanks for all those replies!
1. I don't use a mouse, I use a Toshiba Laptop with a touch pad. It looks like it would be useful to have a mouse with a wheel I guess, though. Thanks for the suggestion Mustafa! New computer coming any day now.....any day.
2. I don't appear to have that hand in my zoom toolbar John. I see it's available under Tools > Customization. Does that mean I can modify the ribbon to have one of those hands there? That RPT thing is just as quick and it works well. I don't know how to do that customization yet.

The 6th item on the zoom toolbar is a real time motion thing, it pulls out to show more boxes - one of those is the hand.
My wheel is on a trackball on my left hand, it's not my ''mouse'' hand but pressing the wheel does not do anything.0 -
As others have pointed out, the mouse wheel is by far the best way to pan and zoom. But there are other ways:
The arrow keys pan up/down/left/right a certain amount each time you press them. That amount is decreased if you hold the Ctrl key, and it's greatly increased if you hold the Shift key.
The PageDown and PageUp keys zoom in and out.
The Home key zooms All, and the End key zooms Previous.
When I spend an hour on the bus (which vibrates too much to use a mouse for pointing even if I had room for a surface to move it on) I hold a small mouse in my left hand just for the wheel and 5 buttons (it's got a piece of tape over the optical sensor), and use the touchpad for pointing.0 -
A-desk, whatever CAD you end up with you better hurry down and get a mouse. They are all useless without it.0

I totally agree Patrick, I am getting one of those mice with a wheel. By the way, thank you, Anthony and John, for all those panning suggestions.
