Coordinate translation
Hey guys,
Is there a way to translate drawings from one coordinate system to another?
Currently we're having to do this in GIS but as of last week that is having some issues when we convert it back into a .dwg file. Previously I did this with Autocad Map which has a geospatial element to it.
In cad the command is under Query - Define Query.
If its not available directly in Bricscad how are other people doing this translation?
Cheers,
L.

I will mention one idea, but since I have never used any geospacial programs, it may not be of much value. In the case of ordinate dimensions, there is a point created at the origin. By moving that point, you can change your coordinate origin. Though, you can't rotate it.If someone is proficient at LISP (which I am not), it would probably be a fairly easy program to write. Just change the USC to be how you want it located and oriented. Then, read the points for each of the dimensions, and recreate them based on those points.-Joe0

Currently you would need an add-on to accomplish that. Consider trying the full working 30 day evaluation of DotSoft's MapWorks, which projects the geometry in place inside the current drawing.0 -
The Dotsoft looks good, thanks for that Terry, looks like a good bit of utility in that. When you translate from one coordinate system to another there is a rotation factor and a minor scaling factor I believe so I dont think shifting the origin would work but thanks for the reply JoeCheers,L.0

We're certainly not simply shifting the origin. The results are comparable to those in the AutoCAD Map application you mentioned. Don't confuse the drawing projection capability with the simple point translation tools we have for surveyors to combine planar jobs.0
