Autocad MEP to Bricscad

Disclaimer:  I am not the most technically savvy person, so I need things in simple terms, lol.
I am a mechanical engineer who does primarily HVAC design.  For the designs I do I use a program called Design Master, which works very nicely with Bricscad.  However, one of the services I offer is to review drawings done by other Engineers and contractors.  The problem that I have run into is that if their drawings are done in Autocad MEP, Bricscad sees ductwork as solid blocks.  This is especially aggravating when the dimensions are posted in the same space as the duct drawing.  When the drawings are published in monochrome, the dimensions get lost in the drawing.

My question is if there is a way to translate the Autocad MEP ductwork to a double line drawing with no color fill in Bricscad?

Thanks.

  • BricsCAD doesn't have the necessary object enablers to be able to view the drawing, you see proxy objects instead. Ideally you would go back to the source and ask them to  use the EXPORTTOAUTOCAD to convert them to standard AutoCAD objects.

Really something like DWG trueview should be made so that it can do this type of conversion for any user.

  • Guys,

My understanding is that the ODA is working towards supporting some of the common custom objects found in AutoCAD verticals. Does anyone (from Bricsys?) have an idea when the first release version of this would be usable within BricsCAD?

And what are the first few custom objects that may get supported?

Once this happens, BricsCAD should be able to start displaying the custom objects properly, if not edit them.

  •  Thanks.  I will have one of my customers try Jason's idea and see what I get.
  •  Hi Ted
Can you check the value of the PROXYSHOW system variable? This variable controls the display of proxy entities. It has three states: 0 = Proxy entities are not displayed; 1 =  Graphic images display; 2 =  Only the bounding box displays. You wrote: "... Bricscad sees ductwork as solid blocks.", So maybe setting PROXYSHOW = 1 might be a solution?
