Bricscad V16 not working on Ubuntu 14.04

I just downloaded and installed Bricscad V16.  It appears to have installed alright.  When I open the program I'm presented with a screen to choose what kind of drawing i plan on making.  No matter which selection I make the whole program closes.

I ran the program from the command prompt to see what error message, if any, I could find.  Here is the error message that showed up after the program closed:

The program 'bricscad' received an X Window System error.
This probably reflects a bug in the program.
The error was 'BadRequest (invalid request code or no such operation)'.
  (Details: serial 363353 error_code 1 request_code 157 minor_code 66)
  (Note to programmers: normally, X errors are reported asynchronously;
that is, you will receive the error a while after causing it.
To debug your program, run it with the --sync command line
option to change this behavior. You can then get a meaningful
backtrace from your debugger if you break on the gdk_x_error() function.)

Any suggestions on how to get past this problem?

Comments

  • If the crash happens right after the startup dialog, the initialization of the main graphics area is the most likely suspect.
What type of graphics card do you have? NVIDIA, ATI, INTEL?
Please try installing a proprietary driver for your graphics card.
(Look for "Additional drivers" somewhere in the main menu of Ubuntu)
BricsCAD uses RedSDK technology from Redway3D, which supports proprietary drivers only.

If this does not help, please enter a support request, preferably with a backtrace, see this knowledge base article: https://www.bricsys.com/nl_BE/support/#77a=321

  • I'm using an ATI Radeon R9 graphics card with the proprietary driver (AMD Catalyst).  I'm going to attempt to install the software on another computer and see if it suffers the same problem.

    Thanks.
