Is there a quick & easy way to get Bricscad to back-up to the folder the drawing file is saved to in rather than the temp file?

You mean Autosave, .sv$ files? Their location is governed by the SAVEFILEPATH setting. This is an absolute path setting. You can't set it to be relative to your current drawing.
