automatic detection of shape/contour

I don't know how to explain exactly the problem I experience currently because I don't understand it, so I will try to do my best:
When I pass my selection cursor on any closed shape, this one (even if not made by polylign) is pre-selected as a "contour". If I want to made a rectangle of selection, I have to keep my finger on the mouse, when before *something* happens I did simply a two-point click.
It's just a terrible thing, especially in a long work and I'm close to put the computer through the closest windows... and I can't find any help or similar problem anywhere! Do someone have an idea of what could happen?
"selection settings" are all OK, and the last command used before "that" happens was a switch in the layers states.
