Upgrade with minimal impact
I will be upgrading from version 16 to version 17. Are there any recommended procedures to follow in order to minimize impact on having to reapply settings and such. Will I have to backup plotter settings, general settings, or is there some sort of automatic merging of settings on this sort of upgrade?

Hi Casey,In an attempt to summarize customization, here is a short answer. When upgrading from one major version to another, BricsCAD installs and run independently from previous BricsCAD versions. It may also find that you have customized your old version of BricsCAD and offers you the choice of copying your customized files to the new version folder structure. I usually say no and will copy manually or set BricsCAD manually later. You can then try the new version to discover the new and improved functions and later port your customization to BricsCAD at your pace.Specifically about all the settings in the Setting dialog box. These settings can be imported by using the Profile Manager.BricsCAD includes a separate utility command for creating and editing user profiles, ProfileManager. You can export a profile using the Profile Manager for V16 and import that profile using the ProfileManager V17 for example. These settings includes Plotter settings used for model space. There is also an export option in the Setting dialog box. It will create a csv file of all the settings for your information only.Once this is done, you might want to add menus, ribbons, toolbars, shortcut menus, macros, keyboard shortcuts, buttons, command aliases, workspaces, Quad cursor, rollover properties, and shell commands. . This is all done with the customize dialog and usually you will have a partial CUI file for your own macros that you port from version to version.Once everything is working ok, your existing profile and the partial CUI can be used to customized other BricsCAD installations. The use a common template drawings is of course a must for all who want to start quickly with all their favorite settings for layers, text style, title blocks and all the settings that are stored in the dwg file. The BricsCAD online help supplies enough information on how to do the customization but if you want to read a learning manual that brings each aspects in a comprehensive manner, you can download and purchase a manual from upFront ezine by visiting the website: https://www.bricsys.com/fr_CA/documentation/The free eBook BricsCAD for AutoCAD users may also be enough to guide you in your transition to BricsCAD.Hoping this helps,Luc Michel0

Yes, that did help. Going through the install, it took that leap of faith to continue further and get to the prompt asking about the settings from the existing install. We expect to have another install to go through with all default settings eventually; this way we can evaluate the default settings in the new version. Applying the existing install settings allows to continue with development of our systems with minimal impact and less interruption in development.
Thank you for the advice.
