Lock a file from editing (to be read only)

Can we lock a file from editing (to be read only) before sending it to someone ?

    Might try going to Windows Explorer, right click on the file, select properties, click box "read only", then apply. Also try selecting security tab and change "permission". Other than that, look into third party file locking software.
