How to choose VIEWBASE first view orientation?
I often get the 'wrong' side of a solid appearing as the first placed view. U tried setting different UCS's in model tab, no improvement.
I can rotate the solid in model space 180 degrees and see the 'right' side first. But then, that solid is in the wrong orientation relative to other parts. See "Grooved Plate.dwg".
Any ideas?

OK, there is an 'Orientation' option when placing the first view.
Select orientation [Front/bAck/Left/Right/Top/Bottom/Current] :
Top gets what the world coordinate system is showing in the model tab, i.e PLAN of world.
Current is a nice choice, it lets you start with a tilted view in the model tab, and use that as the first view in the layout. That way a strangely oriented part, such as a pipe Y, could be viewed from a particular face and be dimensioned that way.0
