Quick Draw - Snaps and DUCS ?

Quick draw even works with geometry already existing.
That is cool.

a)
But I noticed, Quick Draw disables all Snaps.
Is there a special reason for that ?

b)
Quick Draw also ignores DUCS.
Which is ok as it is thought to work on XY plane only.
Unfortunately for me it mostly starts in a vertical plane.

So for me it seems like it would somehow use a previous DUCS
as its UCS. And the only way for me to bring it back horizontally,
is to open UCS dialog and set UCS back to WCS (!?)

Even creating a new DUCS history by placing a Box on a horizontal
DUCS doesn't rearrange Quick Draw's UCS.

EDIT
Switching from Isometrice to Top View and starting QD from there
will bring it back to XY plane. So that it will even work in Iso again.

  • Hi Michael,
If QD starts vertically, then it means your UCS is set to a vertical plane. A UCS is a permanent setting, it goes across commands. DUCS is always only during one command. I think you are accidentally setting the permanent UCS to a vertical plane by switching from isometric to a front, back, left or right view. Try switching off UCSORTHO to avoid this.

    Thanks Pieter,
yes, I must have accidentally set a custom UCS.

I think you are accidentally setting the permanent UCS to a vertical plane by switching from isometric to a front, back, left or right view.

So now I know where it is coming from.
Wasn't aware of or expected that.

But UCSORTHO was very handy (or mandatory) for drawing in orthographic
    "elevation" Views.
So if I wanted to keep that UCSORTHO setting,
I would need to switch to a ortho top plan view first, when I was in a side view
and need to go to an ISO ?

(Couldn't Isos and Perspectives also automatically jump back to WCS
    or custom UCS ?)

    OK,
I use UCSORTHO only because I miss kind of a 2D Option or Axis Lock
that Front/Left/Right/... Views allow 2D drawing like Top Plan View
does, without jumping in the 3rd Dimension that I can't see or control
    in an orthographic view.
Maybe UCSORTHO was the wrong attempt, or may not work either
that way I am looking for.

  • Michael,
Use the View option of the UCS command to align the UCS to the current view orientation.

I am now a bit confused Louis.
    When UCSORTHO OFF,
I can not draw a Box or a 2D Rectangle in an orthographic side view
(in blank screen where is no DUCS Face available)
Because these tools ar locked to go XY input first.

    If UCSORTHO ON,
it does work very well - for my orthographic views.
Just that it keeps the last setting when switching to an Isometric.
So Y's up in that case.

With UCS: View or World I can align or bring back my UCS or WCS.

But I still think I am on the wrong track with any CS actions.
I rarely need an UCS intentionally, 95% I'm fine with WCS.
Just that I want to check Models from side views and maybe draw some
Elements in side views from time to time.

So the recommended orthographic workflow would be,
UCSORTHO OFF, but instead to find any element's Face as a DUCS spender
and locking that DUCS with SHIFT click ?
