Old Timer's Look at Shape

Here is the list I've put together after my initial look at Shape. I try very hard to have "My Favorite Application" glasses on.
I think it's a great product and should act as great "Gateway Drug" into the BricsCAD Ecosystem.

Here goes (take these with a Mountainous Grain of Salt):
BricsCAD Shape v19 First Impressions

  • Like the upgrade option when a new version finds an old one.
  • Like the different color for hovering over a Face versus a Boundary (¿can these be set?)
  • Can ground color and sky color be changed?
  • Option for displaying Names over Icons
  • "Realtime Constrained Sphere" - how about "Orbit"
  • Only one drawing open at a time (change from v18) - Tabs showing Multiple Drawings is better
  • Use of "real" people as a Component is dangerous - many celebrity's images are highly controlled and use of costs money
  • Can't snap to the origin
  • Work could be done to combine Push/Pull-Move-Extrude into one command
  • Need an UnHide Last command
  • No longer anti-aliasing
  • Need Nearest Snap
  • Hidden objects need to stay that way in a Saved file (or as an option)
  • Shape it's labeled "Shape" in BricsCAD it's labeled "Polysolid"
  • Dynamic UCS's orientation gets changed based on whether Snaps are active
  • Saved Camera Views and Settings
  • Shadows to appear on the Ground
  • Time of day, Location, North Angle for Sun Studies
  • CMU Texture, but not Concrete Texture
  • Texture Erase Tool needs to change to an Eraser
  • Prompt if Snaps are active
  • Measurement and Infinite Guides would be nice
  • Rotated Rectangle

I think that is part of the answer for about 98% of your wishes,
    which are already in Bricscad.
    :)

Another part for missing Features may be the priority on simplicity
    and ease of use.

Although my own long List of things that should be in Shape anyway,
does overlap with your wishes in large parts.

Simplicity can be like trying to "nail Jello to a wall". Just enough to get the job done but "cool features" stay out of the way. Case in point - the addition of "QuickDraw". (Also Apple's lawyers may like someone using the term "quickdraw".)

  • Shape will go on developing and getting better ...
But without competeing too much with Bricscad (BIM)

I'm sure the Developers care and read the Forum from time to time.
Some ideas may find their way into decisions.
