BIMIFY V19 ?

In a small test File with some house components,
I ran complete BIMIFY with all options.
Which created 12 Floors (?),
(because I tested Modeling a Cupboard or similar for a test of PARAMETRIZE)
(*) Shouldn't BIMIFY reject sub 3cm thick horizontal Elements as not being "Slabs" in general ?

And further these Floors also have a +1 meter offset in Z (?)
and I always wondered why my Room Objects were created in +50 meter height (!?)
And my propagated 30 cm diameter Cylinder Columns were Classified as MEP Flow Elements.
People Components get Windows and such things

(*) Also a problem when Auto_Bimifying my clients Revit Exports.
As beside the official Slab they tend to add Floor Packages Slabs, stair tread tops or Sub Ceiling Elements,
which are mostly sub 10 cm in thickness but create a lot of pseudo Floors in Spacial Locations.

I attached the "before and after" BIMIFY files,
can someone confirm that it BIMIFIES the same result for you ?

  • Thank you Michael for providing us some sample files where BIMIFY does not work perfectly.

As BIMIFY is a probabilistic algorithm, we constantly need to tweak it based on examples of wrongly classified objects.

  • Thanks a lot TG.
You don't stop refining after releasing a new Tool or Feature.
That is why I love Bricscad.
(I have made other experiences elsewhere)

Overall BIMIFY is great and totally fascinating.

Beside that, in that case, I trapped Bimify's Spatial Location Story
    auto-creation by my Cupboard,
I am thinking a bit about Spatial Location Stories in similar Situations ....

Like my clients use separate individual Slab Packages for Floor Slabs
or Stairs build from Slabs and such.
Basically my primary Bimify Rule would be :

    1.
Do NOT create Stories closer in Z to each other than 2,30 (?) meter.
(At least for the same Building where they are stacked over each other)

There might be Split Level situations and I am not sure how to deal with these,
although in the same Building, at least the split counter parts of the Levels
are something different, if added separately at all.
Similar to industrial Buildings where there likely are some secondary Floors
like grid metal floors for Machines or Ceilings in between main Stories.
But so far I see these are always just part of their main Story anyway.

    In short,
You don't want Bimify to create a new Story from each Stair Landing.

While it might be very useful in the future, to have some additional secondary
Story Sub Levels for such Situations - if there will be a way to bind Elements
like Slabs, Windows, Stair Landings, ... relatively to it.
For parametric changes by Auto-BIMDRAG actions.

  • Sorry for the late answer Michael, but thanks for the feedback on the Story Creation.

We'll investigate the "stair landing" issue and will tweak the algorithm a bit to take them better into account for V20.
If you might have an example file at hand where you encountered this problem, that would be very helpful.

Also, any further feedback on BIMIFY is very valuable. We know there will never be one perfect algorithm for BIMIFY as it depends on interpretations, but we can tweak it to accomodate as much as possible feedback.

  • Thanks TG,
I already noticed some things mentioned in the latest v19 releas notes.
So far I noticed only the Story Creation problem with my cupboard in
the file attached to the first post.
    Will look at it again.

So far no real world examples
(like crappy RVT (via Vectorworks) or DWG imports)
where I was afraid to use BIMIFY so far and tagged them manually before.
But will keep an eye on it if I find a file.

I tried Drawing5 from initial thread as is, again.
    Just opened and Bimified.
I experienced some strange things :

    • Could not save/as the file
    • All Elevations were duplicated
    • Objects not sorted in their spatial locations (?)
    • There were 1 or 2 errors found when AUDIT but did not help

After I reopened the File and did AUDIT + PURGE first,
(+ added a 30 cm Slab on top of the building for spatial locations)
    it worked pretty well.
    Much better now in v19.2.07

    • Sections (Elevations, Plans) OK again
    • Story number OK now
    • Rooms Z heights OK now (was +50 m off)
    • Columns ok now (was MEP)
    • ...

Just that I wonder why my (2nd) Floor 1,
    should be exactly 3,30 m,
has an ugly number in spatial locations dialog !?
(I experience some snapping inaccuracies in v19, but according
to Properties, my Slab's Height is ok)
AFAIK I have seen ugly numbers in Story Heights from time to time
    before.
