Bricsys offers the BricsCAD Communicator which is an optional plug-in for BricsCAD that imports and exports 3D data between major CAD formats, including import and export of .stp and .step files.

You can find more information about BricsCAD Communicator here: Communicator for BricsCAD®
Please note that Communicator for BricsCAD is installed and licensed separately.
A tutorial with an example workflow can be found here: Assembly design using BricsCAD Communicator

those links take me to the "Bricsys Help Center" (https://help.bricsys.com/) and I can't find the articles there...

Ari.Unfortunately, those links were quite old and some of the information there might be deprecated.
The updated article for the first link would be this one: BricsCAD Communicator.
The second article was pointing to this tutorial: Assembly Design Import Product Structure with the BricsCAD Communicator.

Hi Ari, try the two links below. Once Communicator is installed it is mostly a matter of export/import command and then select the file you want to import or the components to export. The 2nd link describes some of the settings that are possible for some file formats.https://help.bricsys.com/document?title=_guides/BCADCOMM/GD_bricscadcommunicator.html

Try import STEP file in opensource FreeCAD, and then export/save to DAE file.
Then import DAE file in to BricsCAD, and if it is a 3D MESH use the CONVTOSOLID command to obtain a 3D SOLID.
