Attribute with several options - how to change with script?

I about 300 drawings with a certain status and all of them should be changed into another status.
The attribute is not defined but its a selection of different options, never dealt with this before.
I was wondering, would it not be possible to write a small script for going through all drawings in the set and changing this status?
