Turn a photo into a DXF

We currently make a custom template to see if the part fits, as some parts are obscure shapes. If its ok we then make the part again in stainless steel but it can take time. I am trying to find if we took a photo of the template on a black or white background, then can that be turned into a dwg or dxf file which can be used. We would then cut it on our laser.

Thanks
James

  • I know of 2 possible ways.
    1. If you save the photo as a PDF you can use the importpdf function.
It converts any objects on the pdf to lines, hatches and more.
But the quality is very important, blurry pdfs give bad results.
Works very well with PDFs generated by a cad system. Not sure what the results of an image would be.
    2. Since you are using a laser, maybe you know of the program "lightburn"
Lightburn has the option to "trace" an image, converting the changes of color into lines.
