Best way for Parametric setup.

I have a design that will be made in different sizes, mainly the width. Can someone take a look at my design and see which is the best way for Parametric set up.

E,B,C - all need to change the same length
A - width needs to change, but also stay in position when E,B,C change
D - Do not change size but stay on the ends of E,B,C

The opening in the centre is for filters which are 395 wide but we allow 397, so depending on how many filters we can fit in will determine the side panel widths.

Example - If I need E,B,C to be 1800, 4x filters will fit ( @397 = 1588) so each side panel will be 106 wide

There are holes in the panels that need to move with the panels.

Thanks
James

  • Hello James.

I have added parameters the way I would do it. You can use the user parameter "Length" to control the length of the part. I hope this helps as an example on how you can use parameters for your model.
    With kind regards,

I tried and it didn't do that, that's perfect. As it seems you understand this better than me would you be able to do the side panels as they need to change width as well but stay in position.
  • Hello James
I have added the width. Be carefull, its now possible to break the assembly because you can low values for the width depending on the length (800 length - (2*397) results in a panel of a few milimeters.
If this happens use ctrl+Z to go back.
  • That works perfectly. One last thing is the holes on the top and bottom of the side panels. If you look at my first model you can see that they are 20mm in from each side and they punch through B,C panels where they get fixed. They need to stay 20mm and the holes move on B,C panels. if that makes sense.
  • I made a slight error, I thought I could take a shortcut with some constraints.
Sadly that led to some problems. Took the long road now so now the holes should no longer disappear.
  • Thanks, I just had one last scan over it and while we have been looking at other areas just noticed these other holes missing sorry to be a pain. Top two, bottom right corner and one that needs to stay in the middle when changed.

    Also check the gift

  • Hello James,
No problem, ill load the old and the new model and do a 3D compare.
And ill try to fix all the differences. I'll do it this evening!

  • Very grateful, as I went to unfold it and noticed a few more holes missing. Thanks
