BIM DRAG

I was always excited by BC's early Direct Modeling and especially BIM DRAG.
While it was a bit hard to understand and did not always work as you would
expect in any situation, it was a surprising feature in a "destructive" modeling
environment.

With later improvements and reliability of the "reacting" objects to BIM DRAG,
because of other new Tools, BIM DRAG was simplified Gin to its core functionality
but also felt a bit into background.

I gave it another try today ....
and expected it to work with Solid Selection only.
But astonishingly it appears in QUAD only if you are in Face Select Mode.
Which, when I tried - I think is wrong - as it will drag a whole Solid only instead,
not just its Face.
(So I think BIM Drag in QUAD should appear in Solid Selection Mode instead)

First when I saw BIM Drag appear in Face Selection Mode,
I initially thought this is exactly what I need/want.

E.g. I have to correct a thickness of a structural Slab, on which my (mostly Interior)
Walls sit on. And I expected that when I BIM Drag the upper Face of my Slab I will
a) correct the Thickness of my Slab and
b) all Wall Bottom's will follow

All Walls Bottoms did follow (great) but the Slab did not scale in Thickness.
It just moved down.

Not a big issue, as I just need to Move PushPul the Slab's Bottom Face up accordingly.
But I think BIM Drag works more inconsistent/surprising than it would need to .....

  • Hi Michael,

We should be able to fix this selection mode in the near future for the QUAD.

About the example you provided, is the issue the fact that you can't easily change the slab thickness or is it that BIMDrag is confusing?
  • It is mainly about being confusing.

But of course, from my example,
I would welcome a BIM Drag upgrade to work with in a Face Mode too
