PUBLISH Model Space PDF File Name - Removing "-Model" Suffix

Generating PDF files with PUBLISH, the model space-based drawing files include a "-model" suffix.
QUESTION
1.) What is the most efficient way to remove this suffix?

2.) Is this suffix removal possible with a custom LISP routine that includes the PUBLISH command?

I use custom plot routines, but they are for 1 dwg at a time. Not multi dwg's as supported by publish.
