Possibility to run BETA version next to stable version on one machine?

Hi all,

I was wondering. I would like to contribute to improving BricsCAD and test new beta-versions. However, when I install a beta it overwrites my stable version. When (like the 24.2.01 beta) the beta is unsuitable for production use, I would like to use the stable version instead.

Is it possible, without too much hassle, to install both versions next to eachother?

  • I thought that too in the past.

But usually the BETA was always as stable as the official version,
as least as concerning the features of the official version.
So I always went with the Beta from day one.

I think that changed a bit with early V24.1 Betas.

Not exactly what you were asking for.

One workaround is to keep the previous version.
E.g. when V24 Beta is unusable, I open my work files in V23

    My second proposal,
    valid for bilingual users only,
is to install a localized version.
E.g. I have an international and a german V23 installed.
This works great as they both use their own user/settings directory.

And I think you can downgrade the Beta by installing the latest official
installer. At least after uninstalling the Beta.
And on Mac you could basically hide/rename/... the Apps to switch between
them - but they would use the same settings directory, as long as you do not
manually copy support folders and bending paths in settings.

I already had an SR about this many years ago.
AFAIR the official answer was to use a second User Account for your OS.

    Hereby how to run multiple BricsCAD minor/maintenance (e.g.: 24.1 + 24.2 / 24.1.05 + 24.1.06) versions in parallel:

Many thanks!!! I'll have a look into that solution.
