REMOVING ORPHANED C3D DEPENDENCIES

I'm trying to get rid of a number of orphaned dependencies from a drawing template. They're from civil3d and probably belong to xref aecc elements that got rolled into the template at some point.

I've killed all zombies using the freebie msi, but can't delete, purge, or otherwise get rid of the orphaned references.

Anyone got any tips?

  • Could you share the template to take a look at it?
  • In CIV3D there is a command trying to remember something like PURGESTYLESANDSETTINGS, after doing this you can run normal purge.

The CIV3D locks objects that are used in say label styles even when no data. Blocks can be locked also.

I would try doing the opposite. Instead of trying to purge the things you don't want, copy the things you do want to a new template. This is often simpler than trying to unstitch a problematic drawing file.

The drawing explorer has tools that allow you to copy table definitions (Layers, Dimstyles, TextStyles…) to the clipboard from one drawing, then paste in another. Alternatively, you could use Lee Mac's Steal program https://www.lee-mac.com/steal.html to achieve the same.

  • Hi Jason, yes our CIV3D template had like 200+ layers, 100+ blocks as it read field survey data, then design layers to be used, at completion of a project a clean up of the dwg would remove significant amount of objects in excess of purge that left them behind.
