Producing 2D Structural Drawings from a 3D Model.

Hi,

We are a small engineering company. We have traditionally used 2D AutoCAD to output structural plans, sections, elevations, details etc.

In this context, we would work from simple to complex. Our plan drawings and stick sections, for example, have very low level of detail (lines of different weights representing different structural members) we then cut sections, details etc, adding detail.

Our idea with moving to a more modern BIM type solution is that all the information is in the model and we can pull out of it 2D or 3D details, but also 'dial down' the Level of Detail to produce our simplified plan/stick sections.

Is this workflow possible in BricsCAD. How?

Have you looked at structural detailing software ? There may be something out there. What did Google reveal ? A quick look and lots of good stuff out there.

I was looking at taking sun screen frames from a 2d plan to full 3d beams and columns. Sort of got it working so can view a 3d view of what the client is getting.

  • I am trying to do the opposite. Use a complex model to output simpler lines for higher 1:50, 1:00 scales, plan etc. to output clean, simple drawings for the builder to use.
