Slicing/seperate of solid with 3D polyline

Dear all,

I would like to slice/separate a solid with a 3d PL as illustrated with selected line below. Have tried direct modeling of edges, points, slicing with 3dfaces, but did not get satifactory result. No idea whether chamfer is possible. Any hints welcome.

  • Sebastian,

I am very new to 3D modelling so I don't know if this is in any way the correct way to do it but I copied your 3dpolyline upwards sufficiently to cover all the top part of your shape and then LOFT between the two 3dpolylines.

I then used SUBTRACT to remove the top part of your shape, if that is what you were trying to achieve.

  • Sebastian,

After a bit more experimenting, I exploded your 3dpolyline, deleted the two sides,

and lofted the top and bottom lines together to give me a surface.

This then allowed me to slice your Solid into two parts using the Surface option in case you needed the top half for any reason.

  • Does he want a multi-curved surface, or two triangles joined by a diagonal fold/arris line?

    I didn't know you cd do a non-planar Slice - thanks.

@David Waight thanks for the idea. I think that'll do.

@Tom Foster thanks for replying. I don't know what "cd" in this context means

  • Sorry, cd is my shorthand for could. Shdn't do it
