Shape "License"?

I tried to launch my Shape (v18) app tonight, and got a license activation prompt… I've had this version installed for over 5 years and never ran into this before. I clicked "activate now" to see where it took me, and was greeted with an "unknown" activation error, code 1036. I'm reluctant to install anything new, as the Shape web page sends me to a general BricsCAD "30 day trial" download… is it no longer free?

  • Shape is still free, but starting with the V20 version, the Shape product is integrated in BricsCAD, so there is a one common installer for all products now.
In order to start Shape after installation of latest BricsCAD version you need to choose the  'Launch BricsCAD Shape' button in BricsCAD's Launcher dialog:

  • So I need to purchase the latest BricsCAD version to continue using it? I own V16, but don't have any need to upgrade…

  • No I think you just need to download and install latest Bricscad, not to purchase it.

Open Bricscad, quit the license window and klick the "Launch BricsCAD Shape" Link

    to start Shape.

Current Shape may look and work a bit different than Shape V16 though but

that should not be a big problem. It is still Shape, just a bit refined.

  • Sorry, I meant that I have a BricsCAD V16 license, but Shape V18.

  • If I got that correct, older Shape versions do no more run without that

activation window as Bricsys may have pulled a plug.

I assume you could use a newer Shape instead, starting with V20, since

which there is a single installer, that includes all Bricscad products.

But you might not find these older installers (?) so may be forced to

    use V24 to run Shape.

So if your hardware and operation system is supported by Bricscad V24,

I think that would be the easiest way to use Shape.

If not I think you should file a Support Request.

  • As zoomer already mentioned, you don't need to purchase BricsCAD, just download and install, then run Shape from the Launcher. You can use BricsCAD Shape regardless of the BricsCAD version you own, new BricsCAD installation doesn't override the old one, they can exist on the same machine separatly.
