Parametric Flange Drilling Rotation

Hi,

I am trying to create a parametric flange drilling void using the bm-subtract layer. The component will be used to create the bolt holes and center hole cut out to suit the appropriate flange.

I am unable to rotate the flange drilling from the vertical axi

s to the correct orientation using constraints. EG, with 4 hole drilling the polar array needs to be rotated 45deg, with 8 holes rotation is 22.5deg and so on.

I have attached the files i am working with. It seems that once the polar array is created you can't rotate the polar array itself using constraints.

Anyone have any ideas how to go about this? I want to avoid having to manually input a rotation angle based on the pipe size.

Thanks,

  • Hello.

One way to achieve the desired task could be to add a constraint between the YZ plane of the drilling block and YZ plane of the main drawing.
To control this constraint, the FlangeRotation parameter should be used.

Something that could be useful would be to use planes as arguments for constraints instead of points - the origin in this case - whenever possible.
Constraints based of planes are more rigurous.
With this case for instance, when using the origin for some distances, the flanges might be rotated, as there is no constraint to keep them perpendicular to the main flange.
