Bricscad 24 - Point cloud tiled gaps

Hello,

I am evaluating Bricscad BIM as possible CAD/BIM solution for our office. I have the trial version and I am experiencing problems with the point cloud visualization. The workstation laptop is an AMD Ryzen 5900HX, with RTX 3080, 32 GB Ram. All drivers are update and the system is set to use the Nvidia GPU with all graphic software apps.

The point cloud has been processed using HSPC from single e57 structured scan files exported by Faro Scene. The pointcloud is in meters and is is just 1000m far from the origin(0,0).

I do not have any problem in Faro Scene, Autocad, Recap, Rhino with Veesus Plugin, Arena4D. It is just slow as normal when I deal with very big point clouds.

However in BricsCAD 24 I have some issues, tiles, stripes and triangles with very low density points. Zooming or panning the areas affected change so the points are there and it is just a viewing issue. It is slightly better setting the pointcloudMaxpoint = 50000000 that I guess is the max value.

Any other setting I should be aware of?

Thank you.

  • Hello,

You can try to set the POINTCLOUDADAPTIVEDISPLAY system variable to 1 (adaptive point sizes) - with this option point sizes are adjusted for a better visual appearance.

    Best regards,

Thank you Lyubov, I have tried that but it does not solve the issue.

Usually when you pan or zoom the point cloud you can see for a second some area disappearing for 1 second. In this case it looks like the glitch, due to the zoom variation and pan, remains.

    Best regards

  • At first I would have thought it looks like a GPU/Driver issue.

All drivers are update and the system is set to use the Nvidia GPU with all graphic software apps.

The pointcloud …. is is just 1000m far from the origin(0,0).

So likely not and if, only Bricscad effected.
More likely something with Bricscad's point cloud display magic.

I would play with all available point cloud settings.
But finally it would be good if you file a Support Request with your demo file.

  • hi,

POINTCLOUDPOINTMAX affects the total number of points used on display. You can try a higher setting.
