Xrefs to use same layers as the host dwg?
I have large blocks, each one a detailed floor plan, four or six instances each rotated to the four or more elevational orientations, so if I change one of them in Refedit, they all update. Now I need the same updating floor plans to appear in two linked dwgs, not just one, so am obliged to do same but with Xrefs. Tricky things.
I think I remember that it used to be possible to force the blocks, xrefs and other linework to all use the same set of layers, but now each xref generates a duplicate set of layer names, same but prefixed with the filename of where the xref is stored. Can I switch that off, just have one set of layers?
Is it something to do with BINDTYPE and/or XREFOVERRIDE? I don't understand what those do, and I don't like that BINDTYPE can be set to convert incoming Xrefs to Blocks.
The blocks themselves have Layer 'Block' and the xrefs have Layer 'Xref' but the latter don't show up in Structure panel, just the long list of duplicate layernames that make up each xref - destroys the ease of selecting (for Hide/Show/Isolate) in Structure panel.
Any advice?

AUTOCAD seems to be able to close, but BRICSCAD doesn't seem to have this option. but BRICSCAD doesn't seem to have this option.

BIND adds a prefix to all the layer names from the xref'd file. INSERT doesn't do that.
