Adding new blocks to Tool Palettes

I'm having trouble saving new blocks to an existing tool palette. I insert 'Block A' for example into my drawing , save drawing and put it on my tool palette, works great until i open a new drawing and try to insert 'Block A', i get a "block with name "Block A' could not be found on drawing". Which i don't understand as all the other blocks on palette are not in drawing but insert fine. The source file seems to be linking to another drawing not where my blocks are saved. says — block not found and program will not let me update the source directory.

  • Hello.

Usually, by right-clicking on the block icon in the tool palette and choosing Properties, a Tool Properties dialog box opens.

Inside the dialog box, there should be a Source file field.
When activated, this field has an ellipsis (...) button at the right side.
Clicking that button opens a Choose a file dialog where you can browse for the drawing file containing the block.

If this browsing is not working, you could experiment by placing the source drawing in other folders.
Maybe there are some Windows OS permissions that affect the current folder.

  • Not sure when i try it i can set Source file, but says existing blocks - - block not found. does not matter where the source file is set too. it will not let me set the block path, keeps saying block could not be found on drawing. Thanks

  • Could you please specify your version of BricsCAD? I couldn't reproduce the problem by your scenario in V25, but deleting of source drawing or the block from the source drawing leads to such prompt on my side. I'd check the drawing, which is set as a current source file for BlockA on toolpalette to be sure that BlockA is still there.

  • Using version 25.1.06-1 , i just downloaded the latest version, will try it with it.

My sourse file is saved in dir with all the other blocks and is still there. Just not sure why it saves in one drawing when i insert it but then next day i can't load it into another drawing, but i can with the older blocks save in my palette. I use to make the palette in ACAD when creating dynamic blocks, but no longer have ACAD, then export the file and import it into BricsCAD. I will try exporting the palette and reload it.
