Applying doors/windows to imported IFC wall does not create openings

Importing an IFC model done in Revit it's Ok, but when trying to apply doors/windows to walls (with compositions) they don't subtract the corresponding opening, that is, layer BC_SUBTRACT do nothing.

I attach a part of the model, with a wall and a door with layer BC_SUBTRACT visible.

Further investigation, the wall is classified as wall, but its really a block composed of several solids, each to a particular material.

Best practice in this situation? Is there an easy way to convert these "walls" into real BricsCAD walls?

Happy new year!

  • Hello.

The BC_SUBTRACT feature works only with 3D solids.
This means that the wall should be modeled as a 3D solid for the subtract to be performed.

In this case, the wall is modeled as a block including several 3D solids, each solid representing a layer from the composition.

I don't have access to Revit, maybe there is a setting on how to export the walls.

About conversion, there is no tool specific to this purpose.
One this to experiment with could be to explode the block an use UNION to merge the 3D solids.
Then, apply the composition to the solid.
    This could be quite tedious.
Maybe there is a setting in Revit, about exporting walls.
