Search/Retrieval - Your Ideas on Simpler Linking of Data and Multiple Details

Have you either experienced working with or developed simpler but highly-organized structures or systems that facilitate searches and retrieval of design files or data?

The possibilities I foresee include using source file name linking employed in actions such as finding/listing multiple typical detail drawings and/or related design data.

We have challenges due to the non-descriptive file naming that cannot be changed due to the demands of a highly-specialized, non-CAD based, product design system.

    if the files are not huge, you can insert them into a database as a BLOB. Then you can add descriptions and relationships

    We had a database for all our dwgs so can search etc as have multiple keywords. You could then have a link to a dwg location or a PDF so any one can look at it.
