Hi, I have issues when snapping to circles in BricsCAD.Hi, I have issues when snapping to circles in BricsCAD.
Let's say I want Copy with Base Point, to intersection of centre of circle and line, with (Snap to Quadrant off), still have issues and it mostly magnetises to 1 of 4 quadrants, rather than centre.
How can it be resolved?

  • Hello.

I am not sure of it, but this might be about the attraction behavior of the grips.

The attraction behavior is controlled by the ATTRACTIONDISTANCE and ENABLEATTRACTION system variables.

    https://help.bricsys.com/en-us/document/system-variable-reference/a/attractiondistance-system-variable?version=V25&id=1650791721231

    https://help.bricsys.com/en-us/document/system-variable-reference/e/enableattraction-system-variable?version=V25&id=1650792075583

You could experiment with adjusting the attraction to lower values, expecially if the zoom level is low, meaning, if the view is zoomed out far away.

Alternatively, the attraction can be fully disabled by setting ENABLEATTRACTION=0.

sk11, you said you have Snap to Quadrant off. If so, it should be impossible to snap to a quadrant point. Are you sure it's off?
If you're talking about something other than CopyBase, i.e. snapping to Center in order to use that point in a drawing or editing command, that can be confusing. You have to start by passing or hovering over any point on the circle, to make the tiny crosshairs at the center appear. After that, it's easy to snap to the center.
  • Thanks Virgil
Yes I have plyed around with these, want to keep ENABLEATTRACTION on,thought a larger value would make it easier, but issue seems to be so many snaps available.

Anthony, yes the Snap to Quadrant is off as per screenshot in original post (the circle is greyed out). It would apply to all copies, Copy Base, Copy with Base point, Copy Along Line, etc.

It wasn't an issue in AutoCAD out of the box, but just can seem to adjust in BricsCAD.
It's because I use small circles as an anchor point for blocks. Could be changed to points and make them look like circles bit issue is that points keep the same size, whereas each of the circle anchors I use vary in size, from very small for a bolt say and larger for something like a foundation.

The real issue here is how you can snap to a quadrant point when you have QUA turned off. Maybe a bug?
Also, if the circle in your screenshot is in a block, I'm surprised that it shows all 5 grips. In my system, a selected block shows only the insertion point grip.
  • Anthony, the objects are not part of a block ... basically in the process of Copying with base point to then paste as a block
