POINTCLOUDPOINTMAX

What's the limit on the maximum number of displayed points, 50,000,000?
Can this value be increased in future versions?

Yes, Bricscad Help also says 50 million.

  • What would be the reason to have more points? There are not so many pixels on a screen. 50e6 are the points loaded on screen. When a point cloud has 1e9 points, Bricscad will select the 50e6 most meaningful points. When you zoom in on a part, it will show all points of the point cloud.

  • Yes, but when it rearranges the displayed points, everything freezes a little, making it uncomfortable to work with.

  • yes. Performance vs visual quality is the reason the setting POINTCLOUDPOINTMAX exist. A lower budget give better navigation and works better on less powerful hardware. A higher budget gives better visual quality but lower refresh.

  • If all points are loaded, there are no problems with panning, zooming, or navigation in general. Problems arise when Bricscad recalculates which point array it will display at a given moment. This is visible in the video; there are some freezes at first, but after a while, the fps stabilizes.
Let me rephrase my question.: Why not remove the upper limit for the POINTCLOUDPOINTMAX variable? For example, I have an RTX 5090. Is 50 million points really the limit for this device?
