Lightweight Polylines

I have recently switched from Icad 98 to Icad 2000. I am now encountering lightweight polylines which seem no different than regular polylines to me. However, when listed they do not give me the length of the polyline. This is very important. If I am drawing a water line that may be several miles long with numerous bends. I should'nt have to use the distance comand or break the line up into multiple arcs and lines to list the distances. Is there another way of listing the length of lightweight polylines?Sincerely,Kevin
