BricsCad's abities with various versions

I just saw the DWG Alliance's announcement that the are now able to support Autodesk's verision '07. I imagine this will eventually enable BricsCad to support it. However, when we purchased version 6 of BricsCad, we were expecting to be able to handle up through version '06 of AutoCAD's DWG. But, we are now realizing that even version 7 of BricsCad can't support the table's that our customer is using in AutoCAD 2004.But perhaps there something I am doing wrong, or something is messed up in the customer's drawing. Some of them will open in Autodesk's True View, and some won't (at least on version 6) Also, I didn't see the the lack of table support on the feature diagram on BricsCad's web site. Are tables supported in BricsCad v 7?Joe Dunfee

  • BricsCad V7 supports reading and writing of the dwg 2006 format, and we are about to release an update that can read/write the 2007 format. This is not the same as to add support to create/edit new entity types, which in some cases requires huge development effort: e.g. the User Interface for dynamic blocks.Table entities are not supported yet in V7, one cannot create, edit or display them. But, they are preserved during editing, after editing a file in V7, any tables that were present in the drawing will still be there. This is what is meant by reading/writing the 2006 format.Next year's V8 will support displaying and printing of tables and of most other recently added entity types. Initially it will only be possible to create/edit them through the programming API's, later on the commands and GUI will be added as well.Hope this clarifies things,Hans De Backer

  • Thank you very much for that clarification. I do recommend that your literature be made more forward about these issues. I also recently checked into Autodesk's own drawing converter. It seems their own program cannot convert these entities either.Unfortunately for my company, the issue of items in our customer's drawing "disappearing" has become a big problem. Boss had told me we will convert to "real" autocad in the next few months.Joe Dunfee

  • Hans,Until exactly what version of Acad files can the latest release of BricsCad view, display, print and edit completely ? And only view, display and print, without editing ?Just to be sure what version of files to ask for when cooperating with an Acad user on some project. Thanks,Marcel.

  • Marcel, probably other users occasionally will look for this information too, so we created a knowledgebase item with an overview:Which entity types are supported by BricsCad V7Best regards,Hans

  • I don't think the knowledge base article really answers all our questions. Is it possible to list what types of entities, from what Acad versions might turn up "missing" in a drawing? In other words, list the Acad version alongside the entities that don't show up in BricsCad.Joe Dunfee
