About the status of our API's

Three years ago Bricsys decided to rewrite a new DWG software platform that can offer a real alternative to AutoCAD users. Unless the great majority of ACAD applications could be ported to this new platform, with nearly no effort (only recompiling the code), we would not consider it an alternative. So this required to rewrite not only Bricscad but also work on better alternatives for the API’s such as LISP,SDS, COM, and ARX (DRX from the Open Design Alliance is not a sufficient solution). At the same time we decided to go for a native LINUX product. We wanted to be able to use almost the same source code for LINUX as for Windows. So an entire new GUI - not based on MFC classes - had to be developed.Could we be more ambitious?Today we know that we are almost there and that we can do the job.Last Spring we decided to release V8: the first version based on our new technology. This version still contains some of the old code. For maintenance reasons and future development speed it is absolutely key that the new product runs on new code only. This has to be achieved ASAP, otherwise we are loosing much of our efficiency in maintaining the code and in our progress for new features. This is in the interest of us all.For our users we still keep V7 running and fully supported and we will do so as long as needed. It is a unique transition period for our company (and our customers) and we will assure continuity by all means. At the end it will result in a solid and stable CAD platform, based on all new code and more compatible than ever. The full rewrite process is expected to be finished at the end of 2007. Until then there might be some delay in the completion of the API's development. The support requests for the API's, might be put on hold temporarily. We prefer to communicate this with you all so you know that we are working hard to offer you best of class software. Your confidence is a huge help to us and we appreciate that.Bricsys sees opportunities in doing a better job where others fail. User friendliness is not only a matter of interfaces - it is our company motto. I hope you stay with us.Erik De KeyserCEO Bricsys
