Tables
Does BricsCAD have a text table feature so you can quickly draw a table with various columns and rows (i.e. to create a change log for a drawing, or a list of parts etc.)Thanks.

No. Briscad seems to only fully support objects up to Acad DWG version 2000, even though it will open more recent versions. They say an unsupported object will preserved a round trip whend opened and saved.Joe Dunfee

While Bricscad V7 does not support recent entity types, only showing them as proxies(and with an incomplete proxy display at that), V8 does support these entities as normal entities, not as proxies. In normal usage the benefits of this are modest: correct display and basic editing of the entity. V8 still doesn't have the necessary additional interfaces yet for creating and editing the new entity types. For a table entity this means existing table entities have to be displayed correctly and completely, and the properties bar will show most properties and allow to edit them. But the text content of the table entity requires additional interface and this is absent. There are no commands for creating a table entity, and no dialogs for editing them. A third party application does have full control over these entities through the APIs however. For example, it is possible to create and edit a table entity in lisp now, which was not possible when a table entity was a proxy in v7. kind regards,Alexander Van Heuverzwyn,Bricsys

Hi Pierre-Yves,
I think one of the third party developments Alexander VH has in mind are the
Sofoco Tools to be found on our web site at:
http://www.bricsys.com/common/applications/applicationlist.jsp?estore.ApplicationCategory=16
The Sofoco Tools include a suite of tools -one of which- allows to edit tables. Following from the Sofoco Tools documentation:
Table Edit:
At the time of writing, Bricscad doesn't yet support the TABLE command, although it acn display Tables. While the fulle Tables capability is still being developed, this tool just allows us to edit text strings in existing tables.Regards,

Hello ,
Our Bricscad productivity pack, GeoTools is another add-on which has a ACAD_TABLE edit feature.
The GT_TABLEEDIT command in the GeoTools -> Miscellaneous Tools -> Table Edit/Table Explode can be used to explode a table (into text and lines) or to edit a table by converting it into an attributed block. Either ways will ensure that someting meaningful can be done out of the 'dumb anonymous block' that results in a table import.
The good news is that this tool is FREE in GeoTools and will never expire.
You can download it from here:

Hi Cameron,
We've a a utility name QTBOM (abbreviation for Quantity Take-Off with Bill Of Materials) developed.
This utility allows you to select random attributes from random blocks, select random area of blocks in the drawing and generate a table with Column headings and totals of each of the blocks in that selected area.
It'll be good if you can provide us with your sample drawing to let us test the QTBOM and return you with the results for you to evaluate if this utility would be useful for you.
You may email your sample part drawing to arthur@icad.com.my
We hope we can help.
Thanks!
Arthur Gan
