Disappointment

I must say that I am very dissappointed with Bricsys at the moment in regards to V9. I am in utter disbelief that they have released V9 without addressing all the problems that V8 still has, leaving us hanging, having spent thousands of dollars on a product plagued with constant updates trying to fix problems that should have been dealt with in Beta, and never implementing features that were promised in V8.When I look at the release notes for V9, I see that most of the improvements are bug fixes from V8, or features that we were told would be part of V8, but never materialized, or things that were supported in V6/V7, but disappeared in V8....now to reappear in V9.We feel like we were ripped off...like we payed thousands of dollars to be Beta testers for V9. I would like to know if all our open support requests for V8 are going to be dealt with with further updates to V8, or are we just "up a creek".My first impression of V8 was that Bricscad wanted to be more like AutoCAD, but now I know that in reality, Bricsys just wants to be more like AutoDesk.I have been informed here that I am to start planning on phasing out our reliance on Bricscad and start looking into other alternatives. It is a shame, after so many years of having faith in their products...

  • I would have to agree. I contacted our North American sales representative last night about network licenses and discussed the new version. The most disturbing thing that was mentioned by the sales rep was that BricSys is trying to move completely away from being IntelliCAD based. This was one of the major selling points for my purchase of BC last year.I have requested more than once COM objects that were available in V7 and are still missing from V8, but are readily available in AutoCAD. I was told by tech support these would come after the "major" usability bugs were worked out of V8. Now they have moved to V9 and those objects, even though they are present in AutoCAD never made it into V8.At this point I am becoming very disappointed.

Both Bricscad and IC are based off the ODA libraries, Bricscad is here now with Vlisp,VBA,DRX,BRX, ICv7 is slated for Q2 09. So while some will be waiting till Q4 09 to get their hands on ICv7, Bricsys will have already worked through the kinks

  • I agree with Daniel. Generally Bricscad works better and better, if it ever goes backwards you can always swap to another Icad or Acad, but it's unlikely there would be a performance or financial gain in either option. If Acad had "perfected" V1.9 or if Icad had "perfected" 98 before moving on, neither product would be very attractive now.Maybe you could call V9 V8a, but the zoom speed improvement alone makes it well worth a contribution of about 3 hours' income for me toward development costs. Let me know where you find a better deal.Does the cad engine really matter in practical terms, to an end user?

  • Since my original post, I have had all of my open Service Request for V8 addressed...it's too bad I had to complain to get that done, but I am very grateful they took the time to do it.We have been using Bricscad for a long time now, and I don't think we are ready to jump ship yet. I was just very disappointed that a couple of our big issues with V8 were listed in the "Fixed" list of features in V9. I don't think that was a wise thing to do...those problems should have been dealt with in an update to V8.I have downloaded the trial of V9, and will try it out.As for my hot headed comments comparing Bricsys with Autodesk, I have already apologized to Erik De Keyser for that. Bricsys has demonstrated they can out-service Autodesk, and I am impressed with their personal, hands-on involvement with this forum.

  • I still claim the prize for hot-headed.Most CAD suppliers promise nothing post-release and pretend bugs and performance barriers don't exist, you have to upgrade in the desperate hope they have noticed the bugs and added something worth the money.I'm still curious, is there a practical significance or consequence if Bricsys were to move away from the Icad engine?

  • In my answer to Mr. Muried Alvin Pepling "Bricsys moving away from intellicad??????" I have explained what our position is in regard to IntelliCAD. Bricscad is new technology, Bricscad is based on our new CAD engine already, it is almost all new code already. We are convinced that we have the most problems behind us. Bricscad V9 is by far the best product we have ever produced and if you read my answer to Mr. Pepling, you probably will understand our difficult path for the last 15 months and why we feel confident about our future. It is only fair I think that I apologise for possible frustrations and doubts that some of you had. I hope that my explanation of the process we went through, clarifies things and gives you confidence for the future. I am convinced that Bricsys made the right choices.erik

  • In an effort to dilute the negative comments, I'm not disappointed.PRICING:Imagine having to pay for AutoCAD updates every year, thats weeks worth of work per seat, not hours per seat...SUPPORT:All of the essential V8 support requests that I made were fulfilled in a timely fashion (LISP and DCL related).ThanksSteve MarcotteSepticad.com
