How to select entities by layer?
I want to select all entities residing on a particular layer and copy-paste.I type "select", "properties", "layer", "whateverlayername" The entities then look to be selected (dashed lines) but I cannot copy and paste them. Can anyone offer advice?

After using the Select command, hit Ctrl-C, then "P" for "previous" in response to the prompt to select objects, and then Enter. You still won't see highlights, but the objects will be on the clipboard.Or use the new Quick Select tool in version 9. Just click on the white funnel with a yellow lightning bolt at the top of the Properties bar; that changes it to the Quick Select bar. Then select "Layer" and "Equals" and the layer you want. Then click on either of the green rectangles at the top of the bar, and that will highlight everything on the selected layer. It's a very nice feature, and you can use it either to pre-select or in response to a selection prompt.

I like to pre-select, so what I use is the QL command posted athttp://www.bricscad.com/protected/en_INTL/support/forumthread.jsp?id=8458QL does show grips on the selected objects, and it's very keyboard-oriented, which is easier for me than menu-clicking.You type QL ,then type a layername and ,then draw a selection window and to end the QL command. That leaves the windowed objects gripped and selected -- but only the windowed objects that are on the specified layer.

I screwed up my last post by using the pointy bracket characters that are reserved for HTML code. I wish I could correct my mistakes on this forum. It seems very un-computerly not to be able to do that. I'll try again:You type QL and hit Enter, then type a layername and hit Enter, then draw a selection window and hit Enter to end the QL command. That leaves the windowed objects gripped and selected -- but only the windowed objects that are on the specified layer.
