PDF Export - large file size

Two thing impress me about the Bricscad PDF Export:

1. ability to embed or outline fonts
2. control over layer export.

But the the really large file sizes it makes keeping me from using it.

I've tried all the various configurations, but compared to other PDF makers, Bricscad is piggy.

  • Bricscad's PDFs are uncompressed. PDF Toolkit can compress PDFs:

  • Thanks for the explanation and link Roy. I'll check it out.

If Bricscad could incorporate some of this features, then the Bricscad PDF export feature would be usable by itself.

Until then, it's a "work in progress" feature and the simplist workflow is to just use some other PDF creation application.
Perhaps the version 11 will have more complete PDF export options.
    Hope to see it soon!

  • I've found that BricsCAD produces large PDF files (in my case comparing with PDF reDirect) but that they're roughly 3 times larger. I can get files out of it that are over 20 times the size of comparable files from PDF reDirect, but that's by setting BricsCAD to output all text as geometry.

I have got an ongoing problem with BricsCAD's output missing certain text - the text on our title blocks has for years been in CityBlueprint which for some reason disappears from the PDFs when output directly from BricsCAD (PDF reDirect and the like produce PDFs with the text present). Maybe the font we have is corrupt. Text in other fonts outputs fine.
